------------------ This afternoon Platform Amsterdam was supporting the No Racism in the Councils! National Demonstration. The organising party, Committee 21 March, is backed by more than 70 organisations that signed the manifest, including Platform Amsterdam. March 21st is not only the day of the Municipal Elections 2018, but also the International Day against Racism and Discrimination. In these Elections where the fascist ideas of Forum voor Democratie may gain a foothold in the City Council of Amsterdam, it is interesting to see which political parties have decided to not show up today. First of all, of course, the PvdA. Who, in the upheaval around the theme of this demonstration, conveniently chose the side of the FVD saying such a demonstration is “undemocratic”. As if racism is an opinion worth debating and that we should do so in the city council in a democratic way.. And what about the Christen Unie? Love thy neighbour, but let's be silent today. And then we haven’t started about the SP, the VVD and CDA, who also seem to not be totally opposed to the idea of racists in the City Council. Let's be clear about it: staying silent about racism and discrimination makes you complicit! For Platform Amsterdam there is no place for racism, fascism or xenophobic ideas in Amsterdam. Not now or ever. No Racism in the City Council!
