First of all, what an honour to kick off the Connect Wageningen Stress Stories! This one time I had to give a speech for bachelor-graduates as president of one of Wageningen’s Study Associations. Knowing beforehand that I am pretty good at making myself too nervous for unnecessary things, I tried to keep it cool. And the days before the speech, I was relatively calm… However, on D-Day itself, I woke up and the first thing I thought was ”Shit”. Well, I started the day nervous and it only got worse. The whole day, I was in a state of the worst nerves ever and the only thing I ate that day was a slice of pizza and three strings of spaghetti. In hindsight, I can really laugh about how much I actually panicked about nothing at all and I have really learned a lot from it. #Wageningen #WURLIFE #stresstories #wageningenuniversity #stressmanagement

Wageningen is a city bursting with science and knowledge. The role of knowledge and science in decision-making is a topic widely debated on – and an important one. This week we were interviewed by students of the course Landscape Economics and Politics about our visions on the growth and opportunities of Wageningen. Besides us, numerous stakeholders were approached. The students will now analyse their data and write advise for the municipality. We find it important to be available for such requests for others to learn while contributing to real-life questions. Often these projects result in new insights which can be taken into account in decision-making. We’re looking forward to the valuable results! #science #politics #wageningen

What are your ideas for the Aula? Wageningen UR is looking for a new purpose for the Aula located at the Generaal Foulkesweg. Previously, the Aula has been used for graduations and Phd defences. The new plans needs to give justice to the cultural-historical value of the building and should be an added value for the city center of Wageningen. Ideas on the table are for example a Hotel or a Filmhouse. We want to know what your ideas are! Share them in the comments! 📷 Sven Menschel

Smart mobility is the future. Or is it? Today we attended an inspiring symposium about smart mobility and what it could mean for Wageningen. Examples from student city Nijmegen to how companies are committed to encouraging their employees to use smarter transportation lead to interesting discussions. Presentations and input from FoodValley, WUR, Gelderland Province, Wageningen Municipality, and researchers highlight the necessity for a multi-disciplinary approach. It was definitely an inspiring afternoon that boosted our creativity to further think about how to improve Wageningens mobility issues. #smart #mobility

Wageningen is rich in locally organised social initiatives. One of them is community hub, THUIS. Thuis was founded 3 years ago and has since been a valuable contribution to Wageningen. It has evolved into a place for joint activities, where you can meet new people, and experience different cultures. Thuis has been nominated for "the best community house of the year" and can win €3000,- to continue their great work for the city. Will you vote?

Learning the local language is an ...

Learning the local language is an essential element for integration. It helps closing the gap between internationals and local Wageningers. We are happy with the developments the university is taking, as many international students are eager to learn Dutch. However, in the financial planning of the municipality, Wageningen solely wants to invest in offering English courses; it is believed that there are currently enough Dutch courses available. Yet, Dutch courses at the WUR are not accessible for expats and other social groups, are often completely full, and remain expensive for high quality courses. If the municipality does not invest its fair share in both languages, how will the municipality claim to pave the way for a more inclusive community of its residents. https://resource.wur.nl/en/student/show/Dutch-lessons-will-be-free-for-international-students.htm?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=Content&fbclid=IwAR21szeED9LlDbsXjDNBGmi4qNc7i9ptW74epiUdUgMZJ8ett3EmOS4dcb8
