Staging sites take the stress out of building your website

Let’s say you have a thriving pet grooming business. You have a nice, professional website, but it could use a few more handy features (like appointment scheduling) and a bit more pizzazz in general. Using a staging site, you play around with a few different themes and ultimately decide to design your own with our fun and easy-to-use assembler tool. You land on the perfect design for your site and now you need a plugin that allows clients to book an appointment. You try a couple different options, but nothing looks or works quite how you want it until you land on WooCommerce Bookings. Perfect.

Now, after those few days of experimenting and trying new things, you have a new, jazzed up website that you’re happy to share with the world. Simply click a couple of buttons on the Hosting Configuration page, and voila, your new site is live.

By working on your new site in a staging environment, you were able to maintain a professional presence while making magic happen behind the scenes. With our new staging sites synchronization feature, you’re now able to easily push your changes live.

How to synchronize your staging sites on WordPress.com

First, create a staging site on a Business or Commerce site with Hosting Features enabled. Once your staging site is created, try out some new plugins, play around with a new site design, or build a brand new homepage.

When you are satisfied with your changes and would like to copy them from staging to production, follow these steps:

Navigate to your hosting dashboard: Settings → Hosting Configuration

Scroll down to the “Staging site” section

Select one of the options under “Choose synchronization direction”

Toggle your desired options under “Synchronize this data”

Click “Synchronize”

When the confirmation window appears, proceed by clicking “Synchronize” one final time.

Het is vandaag 2 november 2023 precies 19 jaar geleden dat Theo van Gogh op brute wijze uit het leven werd gerukt. Eerder waren we aangeslagen door de moord op Pim Fortuyn in 2002. In de Nederlandse politiek verdedigde Fortuyn een nieuw geluid – daarom werd hij gezien als bedreiging. Filmmaker, columnist en regisseur Theo van Gogh werd al fietsend geliquideerd in Amsterdam. Twee moorden waar we liever niet aan herinnerd willen worden, omdat dit direct een aanslag is op de vrijheid van hun beroepsuitoefening. Een politicus en een filmmaker.

De regisseur Theo van Gogh die op 2 november 2004 door een moslim werd vermoord spreekt (zie onder) met de professor in de sociologie en publicist Pim Fortuyn, die kort daarvoor had aangekondigd de politiek in te gaan. Hij had landelijke bekendheid gekregen, omdat hij het in zijn boeken en columns als een van de eerste had gewaagd om te breken met de Nederlandse cultuur van consensus en die problemen open en direct aan te spreken, die veel Nederlanders zorgen bereiden, die echter door een op politieke correctheid bedachte elite in Den Haag of ontkend of gebagatelliseerd werden: Parallele Samenlevingen, criminaliteit, verwaarlozing van de openbare ruimte, de weerloze staat.

De vrijheid om te kunnen zeggen wat je wilt is beschermd in de grondwet. Partij Vrij Almelo vindt vrijheid van meningsuiting het beschermen waard.

Can we all agree that keyboard shortcuts have become indispensable to the experience of using a computer? Just think about where the world would be without copy/paste! We may not think about them much, but these combinations of keystrokes have helped millions of people make their daily—even hourly—workflows faster and more efficient.

WordPress already utilizes a number of incredibly handy keyboard shortcuts:

When you’re in an individual post or page, typing “/” allows you to quickly search for and insert any of our blocks or patterns.

“Shift+Command+/” (Mac) or “Ctrl+Shift+/” (PC) brings you right into distraction free mode (one of our favorites around here).

“Ctrl+Option+O” (Mac) or “Shift+Alt+O” (PC) toggles the list view/outline pane, allowing you to quickly see your blocks at a glance and rearrange them easily if needed.

And now, with the brand Command Palette tool, yet another piece has been added to the ever-growing kit of convenient, time-saving keyboard shortcuts.

We think it’s pretty darn cool, so in this short post we’ll walk you through where and how to use it.

The Command Palette is available across the editing experience, whether you’re switching between templates in the Site Editor or toggling through settings in a post/page, with specific contextual options depending on where you are. While in editing or writing mode, simply hit Command+K (Mac) or Control+K (PC). This will bring up a handy little search box with the instructions: “Type a command or search.”

Type “new” to bring up quick actions for adding a new post or page. Enter the name of a specific post or page on your site to quickly navigate exactly where you want (“About page,” for example). Or access a template in a flash by typing “Header,” “Footer,” “Home,” etc.

Liu conveys the idea that stories serve as a means to understand and communicate our values, emphasizing the importance of connection, playfulness, rootedness, empowerment, and self-definition. The power of story leads to the embodiment of one’s values, which allows us to pass along those values through lived experiences.

I am a blogger less than a year using WordPress. I keep getting notified to shift to jetpack sighting it’s more palatable. Educate me to get a comprehensive understanding

We’ll be streamlining the WordPress app you use now to focus on the writing and publishing basics only. It won’t include stats, and other features that are specific to Jetpack. The good news is that the Jetpack app will offer both pieces of functionality. It will offer full control of your WordPress site (same as you enjoy now) with no changes. If you stick with the WordPress app though, you are likely to see some features removed as it is simplified.

If you want to keep using the app as you do now we recommend switching to the Jetpack app, which works exactly the same and has the full functionality you are used to

Ok, I have multiple sites with different WordPress logins… the JetPack app only offer login to one account at the time? I want to be able manage everything by simply switching accounts within the app.

Hey there, it sounds like you may have multiple accounts that could be merged perhaps. This is possible to do, so please reach out to us here, so that we can guide you through that process.

Thanks but I don’t want to merge accounts, I want to keep separated yet use the app to manage multiple sites under 2-3 accounts. A lot of other apps allows us to do that, but not JetPack, which is to bad and keeps me away for paying for JetPack services otherwise I would consider. I wish there was switch accounts option on the app. So I can stay logged in and switch between them.

Is this a feature for paid-for websites or is it available to all bloggers? Presumably you don’t have to have a smartphone and ‘apps’ to use it if so?

Hey there, it’s available to all, but in order to access back ups, the site on WordPress.com would need to be on the business plan or higher.

Okay thanks – mine’s just a hobby blog so I’m not on any of the paid plans. I use the normal backup function in ‘Tools’ so I’m hoping that will suffice. Thanks for your help

Thank you! I really, really appreciate this because, heaven knows, I’m usually in Octopus Mode and have the propensity of clicking on the wrong button as in, “Oh, nooo!!! What have I done?!!”

I wish that the minimum level of WordPress Plan required for a feature was noted in posts like these! This feature requires Jetpack VaultPress plugin, but that is not stated anywhere!
