De Liberation Route
De Liberation Route volgt het pad dat de geallieerden bewandelden
tijdens de bevrijding van Europa. De route begint bij Normandië en
loopt via Nijmegen en Arnhem richting Berlijn. De regio Arnhem
Nijmegen speelde aan het einde van de Tweede Wereldoorlog een hoofdrol
op het wereldtoneel. Tijdens Operation Market Garden in september 1944
vond hier één van de grootste luchtlandingsoperaties uit de
geschiedenis plaats. De operatie is slechts deels geslaagd, Arnhem kon
door de geallieerden niet worden behouden, maar Nijmegen werd bevrijd.
