On the 17th of May, this Friday, there will be a climate march to demonstrate distress about the current state of our climate and biodiversity, in a protest against the local and national government. Connect Wageningen has chosen to not take part in the march, as we do not agree with their protest against “seeming inability of local” government. In Wageningen, the city council is pro-climate measures and there are already plans in motion to reach our ambitious goals. It is awesome to see that everyone is so involved with the subject and we would really like to encourage you to not only march in protest, but also turn your concerns into something productive. Talk, message, email, call and fax your city representatives to see what they are working on and if you really disagree with the measures our city is taking. When you want to make or change policies afterwards, then the city council parties will help you realise it! Everyone is welcome to help Wageningen reduce greenhouse gas emissions! If you would like to take part in the march, it starts at 13:00 at the WUR building Atlas (Droevendaalsesteeg 4) and then you will march to the municipality of Wageningen (arriving at 16:00). Enquête 5 mei Hallo allemaal, hopelijk is iedereen een beetje bijgekomen van de 5 mei viering? Ondanks de kou was het op veel plekken toch erg druk en hebben wij in ieder geval een hele leuke dag gehad. Hey, you! Are you one of those super multi-tasking students that uses a mobile device while riding a bicycle? 😉 Starting from 1st of July 2019, it is prohibited to use a mobile device (phones, music players etc.) while riding your bicycle. This includes using it to navigate, whatsapp, scrolling through music etc. Anything that keeps your eyes from being on the road. Of course you can use it when you’re standing still. This is a new policy implemented nationally. Vanaf 1 juli 2019 mag u geen mobiele telefoon meer vasthouden tijdens het fietsen. Bijvoorbeeld om te appen, de navigatie te gebruiken of muziek uit te zoeken op de fiets. Het verbod geldt voor alle mobiele elektronische apparaten voor communicatie- en informatieverwerking. Dus ook voor muziekspelers. Als u stilstaat mag u uw telefoon of ander mobiel apparaat vasthouden en bedienen. Wacht niet tot 1 juli en probeer er nu alvast aan te wennen! Take your own packaging! Do you also want to combat single-use packaging? In a few shops in Wageningen you can now fill your own bowl, jar, or box with vegetables, herbs, coffee, pet food, candy etc. The stores where you can bring your own packaging can be recognized by the sticker “Neem gerust je eigen verpakking mee” translated to “Feel free to bring your own packaging” from Zero Waste Netherlands. Wageningen is rich in locally organised social initiatives. One of them is community hub, THUIS. Thuis was founded 3 years ago and has since been a valuable contribution to Wageningen.
