#nietschreeuwenmaarpraten #tijdvoorverandering

The idea that people are treated differently based on their ethnicity or skin colour is unacceptable. Still, it often is the reality for people of colour in the Netherlands. This is difficult for all of us to recognise, and as a result the way we talk about it is often not so constructive. As GroenLinks we say, let's talk about it. That's why we invited Uli Müller over to our campaign hub this coming Wednesday. She is a sociologist at Maastricht University and does research on the ways in which we talk about the topic of race. She is going to talk to us about 'racial litteracy': how do we develop the vocabulary necessary to more constructively talk about racism, and recognise the structural issues that we wish did not exist? MORE ABOUT THE TALK: Developing Racial Literacy: How Can We Begin to Recognize Realities of Racism ? In this lecture, Dr. Uli Müller, a sociologist from University College Maastricht, will introduce the concept of racial literacy, an everyday practice and a form of literacy that can be acquired by anybody not withstanding their ethnic/racial background. Among other things, racial literacy involves recognizing racism as a structural problem that is deeply interwoven into our contemporary societies and the understanding that racial identities are learned and an outcome of social practices.
