This isn’t the type of post we would want to write because it’s heartbreaking to see the hard work of an entire community, Oxfam and the Palestinian NGO Land Research Centre destroyed. Earlier this month, in the Palestinian Bedouin village of Khirbet Ad-Duqaiqah in the West Bank, more than 70,000 Euros of Belgian aid went to waste after Israeli Authorities destroyed water cisterns, trees and fences, affecting 300 people and leaving the community without sufficient water or grazing land for their flocks, which they rely on for income. The community is now forced to travel 5km to access enough water for their flocks. Shane Stevenson, Oxfam Country Director in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and Israel said: “This community has been left devastated, without sufficient water or grazing land for their flocks, which they rely on for income. Belgian taxpayers’ money went to complete waste when those bulldozers destroyed water pumps, tanks, fences and seedlings that allow Bedouin herders to take care of their animals on their own land. The Israeli government must be held accountable to compensate the community and the Belgian government for this destruction.” Photo credit: Ahmed Kaabneh / Land Research Centre 2019.
