On the 17th of May, this Friday, there will be a climate march to demonstrate distress about the current state of our climate and biodiversity, in a protest against the local and national government. Connect Wageningen has chosen to not take part in the march, as we do not agree with their protest against “seeming inability of local” government. In Wageningen, the city council is pro-climate measures and there are already plans in motion to reach our ambitious goals. It is awesome to see that everyone is so involved with the subject and we would really like to encourage you to not only march in protest, but also turn your concerns into something productive. Talk, message, email, call and fax your city representatives to see what they are working on and if you really disagree with the measures our city is taking. When you want to make or change policies afterwards, then the city council parties will help you realise it! Everyone is welcome to help Wageningen reduce greenhouse gas emissions! If you would like to take part in the march, it starts at 13:00 at the WUR building Atlas (Droevendaalsesteeg 4) and then you will march to the municipality of Wageningen (arriving at 16:00). Housingstrategy Wageningen - apparently PhDers and students are not among the topics to be discussed. But 50 people contributed with their ideas about housing for people with needs, the elderly, cheap housing and sustainability. Thanks for all the energy 😀

Curious about what everyone has to say? Or do you have new year’s resolutions to be more involved with politics and / or the city? Then come to the city hall on Monday at 19:30! See you there!

Uit de raad door Monique Heger Puzzelen Het is herfstvakantie. Bij mij thuis komen dan de Jan van Haasteren puzzels op tafel. U kent ze mogelijk wel, van die overvolle tekeningen en 1000-en gelijksoortige stukjes, waarbij je na het openmaken van de puzzeldoos geen benul hebt waar je moet beginnen. Mijn strategie: eerst de zijkanten, dan de grote vlakken en dan langzaam de grote hoeveelheid humoristische taferelen invullen. Gedurende het puzzelen zie je steeds meer details en aan het eind lijkt alles dan best logisch in elkaar te zitten. Zo voelt het deze weken ook met de gemeentebegroting 2019. De vele plannen en cijfers kunnen je bij een blik op het boekwerk van 167 pagina’s best even overdonderen. Maar ik heb mijn puzzel strategie gevolgd: kantjes, vlakken, dan details. Voor de begroting: wat zijn onze kaders in visie, beleidswensen en geld, wat moeten we dan in grote lijnen doen en wat voor specifieke ontwikkelingen gaan we daar voor starten. De hoofdvraag is of het totaal iets is waar Wageningen mooier van wordt. Mijn gezellige puzzel is thuis af. Voor de besluitvorming over de gemeentebegroting moeten er de komende weken nog wat laatste stukjes worden gelegd. Ik hoop dat ook daar het eindbeeld blij zal stemmen.

Over the weekend we had a delegation over from Wageningens partner city Gödöllö, Hungary. Connect had the pleasure to welcome two students who are in the process of setting up a youth council at their municipality. It is great to see that youth around the world are standing up for themselves and want to be involved more in decision making. Sharing experiences and ideas opens our perspective that in other countries around the world it is not always as easy. We had a lovely exchange and hope to see them soon in Gödöllö! #youth #leaders #exchange
