Het Geluid van Maastricht is een wekelijks programma over actuele gebeurtenissen en achtergronden in en rond Maastricht. Het programma besteed aandacht aan uiteenlopende onderwerpen zoals politiek, verslaggeving van evenementen. Te beluisteren elke vrijdag van 17:00 tot 19:00 uur.

In the Netherlands, elections to the municipal councils take place once every four years. The next elections will be held on 21 March 2018. People living in Maastricht will have the opportunity to vote for a new City Council. Please note: you will only be able to vote in the city council elections if you are registered in the Municpal Personal Records Database on 5 February 2018.

To help you with information about the elections and give you an idea of the programs of the local political parties, Holland Expat Centrer South organizes an event on Saturday 3 March, 10:00-12:30 in Centre Céramique, Let’s Catch Up to vote. You will learn more about the municipal elections and you will have an opportunity to talk to representatives of political parties standing in the municipal election on 21 March.

City Council elections You are able to vote in the city council elections if: • you are 18 years or older, and • you are registered as a citizen of Maastricht, and • you are a national of a European Union country, or, if you are a national of a country from outside the European Union, you have been legally resident in the Netherlands for at least 5 years (unbroken)*.

ENGLISH BELOW We gaan weer demonstreren! Morgen vinden er door heel Europa demonstraties plaats tegen het uitzetten van vluchtelingen naar Afghanistan, en ook Maastricht doet weer mee. In Afghanistan zijn de afgelopen weken veel bloedige aanslagen gepleegd. We kunnen mensen daar niet terug naartoe sturen! Kom morgen om 14:00 uur naar het Vrijthof en loop met ons mee in een stille tocht tegen deze uitzettingen. Jonge Socialist Maren Slangen zal namens ons ook kort spreken morgen. Another day, another protest! Tomorrow demonstrations will take place throughout Europe to protest deportations of refugees to Afghanistan, and Maastricht is joining too. Several horrific terrorist attacks have been committed in Afghanistan the past weeks. We cannot send people back there! Join us tomorrow at 14:00 hours on the Vrijthof for a silent march against these deportations. Young Socialist Maren Slangen will deliver a short speech on our behalf tomorrow as well.
