In the Netherlands, elections to the municipal councils take place once every four years. The next elections will be held on 21 March 2018. People living in Maastricht will have the opportunity to vote for a new City Council. Please note: you will only be able to vote in the city council elections if you are registered in the Municpal Personal Records Database on 5 February 2018.

To help you with information about the elections and give you an idea of the programs of the local political parties, Holland Expat Centrer South organizes an event on Saturday 3 March, 10:00-12:30 in Centre Céramique, Let’s Catch Up to vote. You will learn more about the municipal elections and you will have an opportunity to talk to representatives of political parties standing in the municipal election on 21 March.

City Council elections You are able to vote in the city council elections if: • you are 18 years or older, and • you are registered as a citizen of Maastricht, and • you are a national of a European Union country, or, if you are a national of a country from outside the European Union, you have been legally resident in the Netherlands for at least 5 years (unbroken)*.
